我觉得你没有把instead of与后面的意思联系起来，应该理解为“要是···，会怎么样呢？”而且这是一个问句，要把如果“大学学生和教授集中在····，而不是接受基础···，会怎么样呢？”的意思表达出来，具体的表达方式就因人而异啦
