Bank of Chinahas officially begun its branch in Cambodia on Saturday, and its Phnom PenhBranch is the first lender from China in the country and is the Kingdom’s 30thcommercial bank.
“The bank willprovide advantages and positive inputs to Cambodia to boost its bankingindustry and economic growth,” Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister KeatChhon said during the launching ceremony, which was attended by about 200bankers, local and Chinese businesspeople in Cambodia.
“I would like toencourage the bank to focus its loans on agricultural sector in order to help Cambodiangovernment to develop this sector, which is one of the four pillars supportingthe country's economic growth,” he said.
Chea Chanto, thegovernor of National Bank of Cambodia, said the bank's presence reflected theconfidence of Chinese investors in Cambodian market.
“With thepresence of the bank, it would bring new technology and innovative bankingproducts to develop Cambodian banking industry,” he said. He said that by theend of 2010, the customers' deposits in the banking sector grew by 26 percentto 4.16 billion U.S. dollars, while the customer credits increased by 26.7percent to 3.18 billion U.S. dollars.
The country hasthe population of 14.3 million, of which, 1.35 million people have used bankingsystem, he added. “We would help support large Chinese firms doing business in Cambodia, especially those in infrastructure projects, hydropower dams, agriculture, andspecial economic zones,” he said. “It is in line with the policy of China in helping to develop Cambodia's economy.” Hesaid that as the bank's loan targets are mainly on huge projects, so hebelieves that the bank's presence here will not affect existing local banks andthe bank is looking forward to cooperating with all of them.

Passage 2
One in three women prefers spending time withgirlfriends than their husbands. They can get glammed up, enjoy a good meal and gossip till the cows come home. No wonder onein three married women have more fun with friends than their husbands.Researchers who interviewed 3,000 women found that many would rather spend theday with a friend than be with their other half. Six out of ten said theyprefer to go shopping with their girlfriends rather than their partner becausethey offer better, more trustworthy advice.
The survey foundthat when meeting female friends the women made more of an effort with theiroutfit and spent longer doing their hair and make-up. And a day out withfriends was also likely to cost more money than with their husbands, with womenadmitting that their friends encourage them to treat themselves more.
The survey wascarried out at the Lakeside Shopping Centre in Essex. Lakeside spokesman SophieScott said: ‘These results will strike a chord with millions of married womenall over the UK. After a busy week at work, we all crave escapism and some “metime”, and it is clear women prefer to spend theirs with girlfriends thanpartners. Spending time with girlfriends and hitting the shops, or stopping fora coffee and a chat, can lift a woman’s mood.’
The studyrevealed a third of women agreed that they prefer to spend a day off with afriend because they were more fun and more likely to enjoy talking aboutrelationships or gossiping.
Shopping, goingto a spa or having a meal and a glass of wine topped the list of activitieswomen enjoyed doing in their spare time.
