How to Pass the Pretest of Postgraduate EntranceExamination? Using the Postgraduate Psychology Entrance Examination for Example
Abstract Nowadays, the Postgraduate Entrance Examination (PEE) is becoming popular more and more and has become a hot social issue. There are two stages in the PEE: pretest and retest. Mostcandidates are eliminated in the pretest. Thus, how to get a favorable score inthe pretest is worth studying. This article used the Postgraduate Psychology Entrance Examination (PPEE) for example to study the issue. 53 essays which talked about preparing for the PPEE are selected from a PEE forum. At first, the literature analysis method of phenomenology was employed, and thus 29 key words from the essays were extracted. These key words involved keeping positive mental attitude, persistence, study plan, paying attention to authentic examination items, and so on. Then, exploratory factor analysis was employed, and 7 key factorsin preparing for the PPEE were obtained: learning ability, self management, methods and techniques, with the help of others, time management, tailoring self to choose university, and attitude management. Each key factor was explained in the article. According to the results, if a candidate could improve his/her learning ability, self management ability, time management ability and mental attitude management ability, master appropriate methods and techniques, tailor himself/herself to choose university, and make good use of the power of others rather than fight a lone battle behind closed doors, he/she would get a favorable score in the pretest. Whether to take part in a remedial class or not, and what his/her own major is, both the two were not important. This research was the first time to explore the key factors in preparing for the PEE by statistic method. The conclusions could be guides for the candidates of the PPEE and other majors.
