Dear Editor,
I’mwriting to you to express my own opinions on genetic testing prior to marriage.
Personally,I’m strongly against government compelling genetic testing as a prerequisite tomarriage. My reasons are as follows:
Firstof all, in terms of human rights, all men are equally endowed with the right offree choice. Therefore, it is the would-be couples who decide whether they willexperience the genetic testing or not. Government should not interfere incitizens’ free choice, let alone compel them to do so.
Second, government insists genetic testing be necessary, which may be based on somerational considerations, say, it is beneficial for the sake of the nextgeneration,or, to a larger extent, it contributes to the improvement to thewhole society. However, if we take the sheerest love as a starting point, anyseeming rational consideration turns pale in the presence of love, since lovecan conquer everything. Two inter-appealing hearts can overwhelm anydifficulties, be it illness or poverty. That is where the essence of love liesin. Therefore, a man and a woman should get married so long as they love eachother and other legal conditions are met.
Lastbut not least, would-be couples can save some money since they do not have tocarry out genetic testing. This is particularly valuable for newlyweds, becauseany sum of money will play an important role in their newly-started maritallife, the primary phase of wealth accumulation. Meanwhile, government alsogains benefit from this, because the effort for genetic testing can be put intoother fields, which is likely to be more effective. A win-win project hasformed this way.
Asabove, for the sake of lovers and government, it will be beneficial to drop thegenetic testing. So why should it be bothered to conduct such a waste?
Yours Sincerely,
Cahty |
