对这种从句前面有两个可能是先行词的名词被介词IN BY FROM  OF 等 所隔开  

到底如何判断哪个是先行词

看来真的很难

就分析一下第一句吧……

（1）在“|”之前的New sources of energy must be found, and this will take time是一个意群，主语是New sources of energy
（2）在“|”之后but引起了意思的转折but it is not likely to result in any situation 【that will ever restore that sense of cheap and plentiful energy we have had in the times past.】（that 引导的定语从句修饰situition），it是形式主语，其实质主语还是situation

不过我想问的是 最后那一个从句,也就是括号里的  sense of cheap and plentiful energy( we have had in the times past)           为什么是修饰sense  而不是energy

从语法而言 怎么解释呢

也应该是 that 后面的从句修饰agriculture呀  ,agriculture( in the high-energy American fashion
)  in 引导的介词短语修饰农业  可是为什么真题答案上的翻译就是 这个从句修饰fashion 呢？
