Hello,everybody!Welcome to Everyday Slang !

每天学一个英语俚语，估计我们最多学到６月份吧！
学海无涯，但是希望我们在所剩的这些天每天能掌握一点点东西，以此来一步步的提高我们的口语含“金”量。
希望大家每天都跟着学一些，慢慢累积，慢慢消化，不要嫌少，呵呵，虽然复习辛苦，但是每天攒一点，我想我们终有一天会惊奇于我们的进步的！

rule the roost

E.g:Mrs. Green rules the roost on the school board because day after day she works so hard for the students and parents and wins the biggest vote in the elections every two years. Green太太是市教育委员会的第一把手，由于她日继一日地为学生和家长辛勤操劳，她在每两年举行一次的选举中赢得的选票总是最多。。
那相信这个词的意思，大家应该不难猜出的！（CTRL+A检验一下自己的“猜测”）

rule the roost——高居首位；一把手儿（俗话）

解析：
Rule在这儿是动词，解释“统治、管制，” roost是鸡棚或者鸡栅栏。住在同一个鸡栅栏的鸡群里往往有一只雄纠纠的公鸡管著好多母鸡，正好比皇帝和一群嫔妃一般（这个说法好像不大恰当呵^_^）。换句话说，这只公鸡rule the roost。
几乎四百来年以前人们就开始借用这个说法来比喻人高居首位了，而且习惯用语rule the roost一直沿用至今。这个习惯用语不分性别，不仅可以用来指男的也可以说女的。正如前面我们所举的例句一样！
