[s:3] 今天不扯语法，end有目标的意思；in themselves 本身，自身，然后这个句子的理解就么的问题了

补充下：
end: [n] aim，result intended

the end justities the means = you can do anything to achieve your aim
to this end ( with this end in mind ) = in order to do something
eg: We have decided to sell the house and to this end have put it in the hands of an estate agent.
